500 years ago, on October 31, 1517, one humble Bible student, named Martin Luther, created spiritual tidal waves that spread across the world, reaching even the shores of 2017. Armed with the Word of God and fueled by the conviction that we are saved by God’s grace alone through faith alone, Luther decided to stand up for his faith, regardless of threats or opposition from the highest earthly powers. He publicly posted his 95 theses, biblically sound arguments against the corruption in the church of his day. This opposition angered the church leaders, who tried every possible way to get this passionate and faithful Christian to retract his statements.
The reformer answered: “…I cannot submit my faith either to the pope or to the councils, because it is as clear as noonday that they have often fallen into error, and even into glaring inconsistency with themselves. If, then, I am not convinced by proof from Holy Scripture, or by cogent reasons; if I am not satisfied by the very texts that I have cited, and if my judgment is not in this way brought into subjection to God’s Word, I neither can nor will retract anything; for it cannot be right for a Christian to speak against his conscience. Here I take my stand; I cannot do otherwise. God be my help! Amen.” The Great Controversy, p. 160
“Thus stood this righteous man, upon the sure foundation of the Word of God. The light of Heaven illuminated his countenance. His greatness and purity of character, his peace and joy of heart, were manifest to all as he testified against the power of error, and witnessed to the superiority of that faith that overcomes the world.” Ibid
You don’t have to be a Luther to make tidal waves for God; Just do your part faithfully and leave the results to the Almighty.
